Introduction to Flameworking (Multiple Dates and Times)
Get ready to turn up the heat and explore glass blowing at the smallest scale on our studio torch!
Flameworking, (also known as lampworking, or torchworking) refers to manipulating glass rods in front of a highly-controlled flame to create one of a kind works of glass art. In this class, you will learn basic flamework skills and design several small pieces that will be ready for pick-up after the class. That’s right…good things come to those who wait. Due to the high temperature of your art at time of creation, it will need to anneal (controlled cool) in our studio kiln. Shipping is also available for a small fee if you are visiting from out of town.
Skills introduced to the basics of flameworking include:
Understanding common flamework tools (like torches, mandrels, and shaping tools) and the types of glass (often borosilicate or soft glass)
Cutting, melting and fusiing glass together with a torch
Drawing down or building up glass to create specific shapes
Working with a gold seal or punty
Includes:
All necessary safety equipment, glass, tools, and equipment provided.
1 hour of individual instruction and support. Maximum class size of 2 participants.
